When it comes to our babies and children, the perfect bathtime product is one that does the job but is as mild and kind to their skin as possible. Despite massive advertising campaigns to persuade you otherwise, commercial brands can be loaded with petrochemicals, sometimes including almost the same ingredients as adult products.
It’s a worrying fact that our adult skin can absorb up to 60% of any chemical we put on it – and a baby's skin is six times thinner and five times more sensitive. Yet ingredients like SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), which has been linked to skin irritation, diarrhoea, breathing problems and eye damage, can still be included in baby wipes and shampoos.
Children’s bubble baths can also contain chemicals like diethanolamine (DEA) triethanolamine (TEA) and monoethanolamine (MEA); when combined with other ingredients, these can form nitrosamines which can become carcinogenic.
The best way to protect your child is to steer clear of these commercial cocktails of detergents, preservatives, colourants and fragrances and stick to our tried and tested range of skin-friendly products.
