Bin the bags: Use your own shopping bags when visiting the supermarket or use the doorstep delivery service.
At the moment, each person in the UK uses an average of 134 plastic bags each year.
Don't drive. If you don’t have to, then walk, run, rollerskate, cycle or take a coach, bus or train. If you do a regular journey, try to set up a car-share scheme.
Gadgets: Donate old computer and audio visual equipment to community groups or schools. Buy rechargeable items instead of disposable ones e.g. batteries and cameras. Look for long lasting (and energy efficient) appliances when buying new electrical items - ensure these are well-maintained to increase product life cycle.
Junk the junk: Stop junk mail and faxes through the Mailing Preference Service
Launder rather than landfill: Use a nappy laundry service, and save disposable ones for holidays and long journeys
Lower your laundry. Wash your clothes at the lowest possible temperature and use a natural re-usable system such as Aquaball.
Use better energy. Switch to a supplier that generates electricity through wind, water and solar power.
Wrap up your home. Insulate your loft space, cavity walls, hot water pipes or boiler. Draught-proof your doors, windows, letterbox or cat flap. Keep your home a little warmer and your planet a little cooler.
